Educational Motion Ratio Tool

FDF Raceshop Educational Displays exist to make suspension theory click. Each one is a working model you can pick up and move with your hands, so instead of reading about a concept or watching a simulation, you watch it happen in front of you. Sits well on a desk, a shop bench, a trailer shelf, or a classroom table.

Motion ratio sounds simple until you try to explain it out loud. An inch of wheel travel is not an inch of shock travel, and where the shock mounts changes everything about how the spring rate actually feels at the tire. This display puts that in front of you. The shock relocates at both ends, on the arm and on the chassis, so you can build a handful of different setups and cycle each one through its travel. Watch the two numbers stop matching each other.

What you walk away with is a real feel for why two cars on identical spring rates can behave nothing alike, and why the number on the spring is only half the story. It's a teaching aid rather than a setup tool, so it won't calculate your car's ratio for you. What it does do is make the concept obvious enough that you'll never look at a shock mount the same way again. The motion ratio formula is printed on the back for when you do want to run the numbers.
