Visualize Suspension Geometry with our 3D Printed BMW 5-Link Model

If you've ever tried to wrap your head around multi-link rear suspension, you know it’s nearly impossible to capture. I designed this 3D printed model to help make sense of it.

This is a to-scale replica of a BMW rear 5-link arrangement. It’s not just a static statue, though. It uses polished steel 9mm balls (M4x.7 threads) for smooth articulation and feel.

I made every single control arm adjustable on the fly. There’s no wrenching needed—just slide a locking collar back, adjust the length, and snap it back locked. I even included green indicators for the neutral positions so you don't get lost in the setup.

This model lets you cycle the suspension and see, in exaggerated form, exactly what each arm controls. It’s amazing for visualizing dynamic changes in camber, toe gain, anti-squat, bump steer, and more. It’s one thing to read about it, but it’s another thing entirely to move the suspension through its travel and watch the geometry change in front of your eyes.
