Third Place Finish in the DMCC Championship
The 2024 DMCC season has officially wrapped, and what a ride it’s been. Coming into the final round, we were sitting second in the points standings, just 16 points behind the leader. With each position worth 10 points, the math was simple—beat the top driver by at least two positions, and the championship was ours.
It set the stage for a high-pressure weekend, and from the start, it was clear this final round would demand everything from both driver and car.
Heading into practice, the conditions were crisp and the track was cold, which meant grip levels were tricky. Despite running massive front tires and sticky compounds, we battled unexpected understeer. The team made quick adjustments—adding front-end grip and loosening the rear to keep the Corvette nimble.
The car, fresh off a dyno session that unlocked an additional 80 horsepower and smoother nitrous delivery, felt stronger than ever. With qualifying carrying heavy points, the goal was clear: lay down fast, clean runs to secure a top spot.
We managed an 82-point qualifying score, good enough for sixth place and a spot in the top eight. That meant no extra runs were needed, keeping the car and tires fresh for battle.
When it came time for competition, the focus was on smart, calculated driving. Unfortunately, the bracket paired us with a driver who had been unpredictable all weekend. Earlier in the day, we’d seen him flirt with disaster on the banked section of the track—understeering and nearly flying off course.
That history made me cautious. I gave him more space than usual, planning to close in mid-run. But he put down one of his best lead runs of the entire event, holding a razor-thin line on the edge of control. I hesitated, left too much room, and when he finally transitioned, I miscalculated and went off-track in the smoke.
It was a tough mental battle. Early in the season, I’d been overly aggressive and paid the price. This time, I was too cautious—and that small mistake ended our run.
Despite the loss, we wrapped the season third overall, just a few points shy of second. Kevin Morin took home second overall, which was a win because he is a full FDF driver!!
The year was packed with highlights:
-
Developing new tools like the FDF Pit Kart to streamline race weekends.
-
Refining the Corvette’s setup to handle some of the most demanding tracks in North America.
-
Building a stronger team dynamic, from car prep to food logistics.
This season reinforced one of racing’s biggest truths: you learn more from losing than from winning. Every loss forces deeper analysis—more detailed notes, more precise data, and smarter strategies.
We’ve already started logging every track session, every car setup change, and every mental takeaway to ensure we come back stronger.
Next up? Refining the Corvette even further and preparing for bigger challenges. The DMCC series has been the perfect testing ground, but the ultimate goal is to bring this program back to the global stage—whether that’s Drift Masters or Formula Drift. More seat time, more development, and more problem-solving are on the horizon.
